Since I became the Sheriff in 2017, we have seized, or been involved in seizing, over 20,000 pounds of illegal drugs. This includes the two largest drug seizures ever in Davie County. I am also the only Sheriff to successfully use the nuisance abatement laws to shut down privately owned residences that are a blight on their neighborhoods. This is a complicated case to build against a location, and we were able to complete three of these cases in 2018 -19 before Covid hit. This caused a backlog in the courts that dealt with these types of cases, which we are just now beginning to process again.
Did you know:
During my tenure as Sheriff, I have increased our partnerships with other Agencies so that we can better interdict the flow of illegal drugs that come to Davie County. I have also increased the number of Deputies assigned to Narcotics and enhanced their training, including completing certification of a Drug Diversion Investigator. This Deputy is one of less than 100 Diversion specialists in North Carolina. We also have clandestine lab certified Deputies, Deputies who have completed training on how to manage complicated drug conspiracy cases, specialized undercover operations, and much more.
Did you know that:
When you hear or read about a major drug case, it is because we have worked that case to an end. If there are more leads to follow, or people involved that will cooperate with us, then we will not yet be reporting on the case. Our Narcotics Unit is busier than ever working street level drug cases, large distribution cases, interdiction cases, prescription medication cases, and more. These Deputies have been recognized with awards and letters of commendation over the time I have been the Sheriff, and I will continue working to provide the specific resources they need to combat illegal drugs in our County.
