Law Enforcement has been, and continues to be, my passion for over 30 years. My career with law enforcement began in 1991 with Basic Law Enforcement Training. My service began as a Campus Police Officer at Wake Forest University, where I held several different positions during my tenure. Seeking a community to call home and raise a family, we chose Davie County to live, work, and serve our community. Initially I served with Mocksville PD for approximately a year, and then I was recruited to Davie County Sheriff’s Office, where I proudly continue to serve the citizens of Davie County.
Over the last 24 years, I have served in nearly every position at the Sheriff’s Office, including ten years as Chief Deputy and now as Sheriff the last six years. My wife, Robin, and I have been together for 29 years and are blessed with two wonderful children, Madelyn and Jackson. Madelyn is a practicing Dentist and resides in Atlantic Beach with our “bonus son” Patrick, who is a commercial fisherman. Jackson completed his degree in Criminal Justice at Appalachian State University, and now works for a neighboring Sheriff’s Office. Our family has attended Green Meadows Baptist Church for over 24 years.
As firm believers in serving and giving back to our Davie County community, Robin and I enthusiastically support and serve, or have served, as board members for several local non-profit agencies. I am a proud founding member of the Dragonfly House Child Advocacy Center, where I served two terms on the Board of Directors and held the post of President, Vice President and Treasurer for this phenomenal organization. I continue to support the Dragonfly House, while Robin currently serves as the Board President. I have also served on the Advisory Board for Davie Domestic Violence and the Child Fatality Team for Davie County. While serving on the Farmington Community Center Board of Directors for numerous years, I held the position of President for five years. As a member of the Farmington Ruritans, I currently serve on the Board of Directors. Further, I serve on the Board of Directors for the Advocacy Center and am a Mocksville Rotary Club member. Additionally, I am an active member of the NC Sheriff’s Association and serve on two committees, the Legislative Committee and Training Committee. Over the last three years, I have served on the NC 911 Board, working to enhance the 911 services for the state of NC. I also serve on the Davie County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council, and on its Funding Committee.
If you are new to Davie County, welcome; you have truly found the best place to live in NC. If I, or any of my staff, may be of service to you, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you,
JD Hartman
